St. Petersburg offers some incredible Redfish Fishing in the next couple of months in the waters of Tampa Bay. We can target Redfish year around in Tampa Bay with September and October being two of my favorite months to fish for the big over slot Redfish on the shallow flats of Tampa Bay. These fish can be found in schools of hundreds on the shallow flats offering some great action on light tackle. Redfish tend to be a very spooky fish in the shallow water, so we will use a trolling motor to sneak up on them. We have been catching fish between 20-40 inches lately. These bottom feeding drag pullers will run off 100 yards of line in no time at all offering a very exciting fight for any angler. Redfish can be caught on both live and artificial baits with some of their favorite baits being pinfish, crabs and shrimp. Using a medium light spinning outfit with a twenty-five-pound leader and a one ought circle hook we will cast baits in front of the schooling fish to be presented without spooking the fish in the school. Redfish have a very rounded nose which leads to them feeding face down in the grass looking for their next meal. Often times when one fish is hooked out of a school, it is very common to get a double or triple hook up out of the same school. Sometimes we will throw chum out if needed to keep the school within casting range on the boat. We practice catch and release on all the Redfish in Tampa Bay aboard YACHTFISH Fishing Charters to keep our fishery stocked for years to come. We invite you to book a St.Petersburg Fishing Charter with YACHTFISH today and get in on the exiting action Tampa Bay has to offer!
